Named after the ancient Greek muse of history, Clio offers an immersive experience for history enthusiasts. By utilizing your present location, Clio conveniently guides you to various landmarks, museums, and historic sites. Furthermore, it serves as a captivating virtual time machine, providing users with access to images, videos, and detailed accounts of historical events that have taken place in their vicinity.

Clio is constantly evolving to enhance user experience. Upcoming features include interactive walking/driving tours and push notifications.

However, Clio's existence relies on the support of individuals like yourself who possess a passion for history and culture. If you wish to contribute, please reach out to us via email at clio@theclio.com. We are diligently working to introduce new features such as push notifications and interactive walking tours through generous donations and other forms of support. It is important to note that The Clio Foundation is recognized as a 501c3 public charity by the IRS, making all donations tax deductible.

With hundreds of new entries and improvements being added on a monthly basis, Clio not only functions as a website and smartphone application but also serves as a collaborative research, interpretation, and map-building initiative. The majority of Clio’s content is contributed by museum professionals, scholars, and their students. Furthermore, local history experts and museum volunteers play a significant role in our endeavor, as they often possess unparalleled knowledge of their area's history. This partnership between local history experts and professional historians allows us to construct a comprehensive, dynamic, and interactive map that showcases the rich tapestry of American history.
